Aagan Lal Rajbanshi is 50 years old and blind. He lives with his family in Kechanakawal in Jhapa District, Nepal. The family includes his wife (34), daughter Phul Kumari (12) and son Sath Narayan ( 2½).
Aagan Lal receives a small pension from the government – due to his visual impairment, he has no opportunity to work. His wife, Dil Maya, is a day laborer. Income varies greatly and access to daily food needs depends heavily on her daily income. The daughter attends a public school that does not charge fees.
The living conditions of this family are miserable. She lives in a small one-room house, built of hay and silt, with a thin canopy of leaves. Actually, it is an emergency shelter and does not protect from wind and weather. The furnishings are more than modest – there is a lack of everything: kitchen utensils, clothes, beds, cupboards. Cooking is done outside in an oven, powered by mud.
During the pandemic, the family lived under plastic sheets on the street. They had no shelter and hardly any food.
This family will be equipped by TNF with all necessary things like kitchen utensils, beds, cupboards, gas stove. Furthermore, we will accompany the family and look for possibilities for a regular income together with them.
